Kim grew up outside of Boston and currently lives, with her husband and two children, near the beach on the southeast coast of Massachusetts.

She earned a graduate certificate in picture book writing from Emerson College, and is the recipient of the Ruth Landers Glass Memorial Scholarship in Writing from the New England region of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She also holds a master's degree in social work from Boston University, where she was awarded a grant for outstanding clinical work with children.

As a therapist, Kim specializes in trauma work. As a writer, she loves the balance of writing humorous picture books and chapter books, as well as young adult novels about characters with complex lives and no easy answers.
