Mel writes fiction and nonfiction for kids and teens. Besides books, her favorite things are trees, rainbows, and dairy-free ice cream. In her opinion, the funniest thing in the world is misplaced food, like a hotdog in your backpack or a banana on a playground swing. Maybe she’ll write a book about that one day.

As a content development editor for American Girl, Mel wrote advice and activity books, developed fiction books, and once received a two-pound tub of marshmallows as a birthday gift. Now she writes full time, alongside two feline coworkers who have variety of skills, including sitting on her keyboard and deleting entire paragraphs of text. One of them also loves to scream!

Mel lives in Madison, Wisconsin. If you come to visit, ask her where to get the best cheese curds!
