J.T. Hannah

Biography

J.T. Hannah was born in Zambia and crossed the equator by air, land and sea by the time he was two. On these and other travels, his parents read aloud to him, vividly weaving together journeys and storytelling. As a young adult, Hannah tried to make sense of growing up on the road through personal essay writing. After studying literature at the Harvard Divinity School, he got excited about the transformational power of stories and decided to leave behind non-fiction.

Along with living and traveling in Ethiopia, Kenya, the Sudan, Egypt, Texas, Hawaii, Idaho, Wisconsin, Scotland, Scandinavia, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Peru and Somerville, MA, he’s had the familiar writer’s mix of odd jobs—from dishwasher to travel writer to private investigator. He hopes all these different worlds will come together in the new worlds he’s creating, and will help invite readers into journeys of their own. He’s thrilled to have found such a smart, nurturing agency in Adams Literary and looks forward to sharing his stories with a wider audience.
