Tim Floreen

Biography

Tim Floreen first discovered his love of storytelling when he was a kid growing up in suburban Northern California and acted out epic sagas with his Masters of the Universe action figures. (He also discovered he had a big crush on He-Man. Those action figures taught him a lot about himself.)

Years later, after outgrowing that phase (mostly) and finishing high school, he went to the east coast for college. He graduated from Yale in 1996 with a bachelor's in English. Next he moved to Los Angeles, where he hoped to make his mark on Hollywood as a writer of screenplays and teleplays. He had a few adventures (including a one-year stint working on the crew of James Cameron's Titanic) but found himself more and more drawn to writing fiction.

Tim shifted gears, started writing short stories in earnest, and was admitted to Boston University's creative writing program, where he studied under the novelists Ha Jin and Leslie Epstein. He earned his master's in 2005. Now he lives in San Francisco with his partner and their two high-maintenance cats. When he’s not writing, he maintains his sanity and keeps the hunch out of his back by teaching and practicing yoga.
