Clay Carmichael

Biography

Author-Illustrator Clay Carmichael grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts and graduated with highest honors in creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the author-illustrator of the award-winning novel Wild Things (Front Street) and the picture books Bear at the Beach, Used-Up Bear and Lonesome Bear (North-South), which have been translated into many languages. She was also a contributor to The Secret to Their Success: How 33 Women Made Their Dreams Come True (Carolina Women's Press). Carmichael is at work on a young adult novel and also promotes and teaches writing and illustrating in schools. She lives with her husband, sculptor Mike Roig, and an ever-growing number of spoiled feral cats in Carrboro, North Carolina.
