Sam's Gift

Deseret Books / 1996

Sam Evans, the self-described Boy Without a Talent, has a problem or two. Or three. For one thing, he's homesick for his old life in Utah. For another, he has volunteered to play the oboe at a Tuxedo Park Sixth-Grade Holiday Talent Show in spite of the fact he doesn't even know what an oboe looks like. And then there's his annoying classmate Milo the Mosquito, who persists in tormenting him.

If only Sam, who misses his old cat, Shadow, could make friends with the mysterious black cat he spies in the woods one day, maybe then he'll have a reason to be happy in his new home....
