Patricia Batey
Biography
Patricia began her artistic career pretending to be a ballerina in the family living room. However, when one too many lamps bit the dust from her flailing limbs, her mother enrolled her in a real ballet class. She’s been dancing ever since, eventually earning a degree in dance from Butler University. Patricia went on to dance professionally until the birth of her daughter.
Between grand jete’s and voracious reading Patricia began writing and illustrating her own stories and poems. She received a scholarship to the Highlights Foundation Writer's Workshop at Chautauqua, and was subsequently hired by Highlights to work on their web site, Highlightskids.com, as a moderator and answering children's letters in Dear Highlights.
Trish’s work has been purchased by Highlights for Children Magazine and has appeared in the Indianapolis Star. She is the recipient of an Individual Artists Grant, funded by the Indiana Arts Commission and The National Endowment for the Arts, to do research on her current historical novel. She has served as the Regional Advisor as well as he Assistant Regional Advisor for Indiana SCBWI.
Patricia lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, with her husband, dog, and four cats. She teaches ballet, tap, hip hop and creative movement classes to children and senior citizens.
